Joni Mitchell and Beyond Concert in the Dark celebrates 50 years of Hejira in Wimberley Nov 22
Concert-goers seeking a “unique entertainment experience” are invited to attend Joni Mitchell and Beyond Concert in the Dark at Unity of Wimberley on Sunday, November 22, with two shows at 6 pm and 8 pm. Seating is limited to 100 guests per show.
Celebrating the 50th anniversary of Joni Mitchell’s Hejira, the show weaves together songs from the 1976 album and Mitchell’s classics with poetry and stagecraft. Beginning and ending in total darkness, the concert immerses the audience in an intimate setting, with Mitchell’s music reimagined on violin, cello, and acoustic guitar.
The concert features vocalists Libby Kirkpatrick, Suzanna Choffel, Karen Mal, award-winning violinist and composer Will Taylor, and cellist Tony Rogers.
Joni Mitchell and Beyond is part of the Concerts in the Dark Austin collection by composer Will Taylor, who strived to create something that is not “a typical concert.”
“This is something that's really going to take you on a journey,” Taylor said. “It's a unique experience that is going to wrap you up with this amazing feeling of connection with people in your community around acoustic music, while hearing this album in a totally different way.”
“It’s fun to get people to reactivate their imaginations,” he said. “We want everyone to get into the spirit of that music and that time.”
For Taylor, who has an award-winning career in all aspects of performance, this show “scratches my creative itch.”
“It's kind of halfway between doing original music and cover music, and we do it in a very creative way,” he said. “We keep reinventing and adding elements. Those who have seen it are coming up and saying, this is life changing. It's a unique experience, and you don't want to miss it.”
